Gift Aid
Increase the value of your donations at no extra cost, with Gift Aid
What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is
a government scheme that benefits registered charities without any cost to you.
It allows us to claim back the basic rate tax (25%) on every £1 donated to us
by UK tax payers during the past 4 years, and any future donations until
further notice.
Do I qualify for Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is
available to all UK taxpayers, as long as the amount you pay in Capital Gains
or Income tax is greater than the total amount charities you donate to will
reclaim in any tax year.
What if I don’t pay tax in the UK?
Unfortunately you won’t qualify for Gift Aid. If you are a US taxpayer, please contact us for information about donating to Shakespeare’s Birthplace America, a not-for-profit organisation based in the United States.
How do I Sign Up?
It’s very
easy and only takes a moment, just make a Gift Aid Declaration and
we’ll take care of the rest.
Does it really matter if I Gift Aid?
Gift Aid
turns a £4 donation into £5 and £10 into £12.50. Since we truly appreciate
every £1 we receive, Gift Aid is really worthwhile on any size of donation!
How do I stop Gift Aiding donations?
You can
cancel your declaration at any time by notifying us at [email protected].
Cancellation will be back-dated to include any donations made within the last
30 days.
Please also let us know if you cease to be a taxpayer.
What if I pay higher rate income tax?
Gift Aid is
only reclaimed at the basic rate of 20%. If you pay a higher rate of
income tax, you can claim the difference between the higher rate and the basic
rate of tax on the total 'gross' value of your donation. Claims can be made on
self-assessment tax returns. For more information, visit the HMRC website.
