Visitor Welcome Volunteer or Visitor Engagement Volunteer 

We’re looking for someone who is friendly, welcoming and passionate about history. 

You’ll become part of a vibrant and friendly team that offer visitors historical talks and a friendly welcome to Shakespeare’s New Place. With contemporary artwork inspired by Shakespeare’s works, life and times, you will be helping to support Stratford’s heritage and continue Shakespeare’s legacy.

Volunteer at one of Shakespeare's family homes:

Exhibition Volunteer 

This is a chance to be part of a close-knit and lively team at Hall’s Croft.

You’ll be engaging visitors with the history of house, it’s connection to Shakespeare and the current Method in the Madness exhbition which looks at the history of medicine through time.

Visitor Engagement Volunteer 

Shakespeare’s Birthplace is looking for volunteers to help at weekends.

This is an opportunity for you to meet new people, expand your knowledge of Tudor history and to engage with visitors in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon.

Visitor Engagement Volunteer 

You can help bring the 500 years of history to life at Anne Hathaway's Cottage.

This volunteer role involves giving a warm welcome to visitors, offering themed historical talks and monitoring the safety of our historic collections.

Hear from some of our current volunteers about how much they enjoy volunteering with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust:


Norma, Collections Volunteer 

Norma has been volunteering with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust since 1985, after being widowed. As well as gaining a valuable support network, it also led to her studying an MA in Local and Regional History at University of Warwick.

Archie, Visitor Engagement Volunteer at New Place 

At 17 years old, Archie is one of our youngest volunteers. He joins us for 2-3 hours a week at Shakespeare's New Place from King Edward VI Grammar School, Stratford-upon-Avon where he is studying A-Level maths, economics, and geography.

John has been a volunteer guide with us for eight years, having taken early retirement from the water industry. "I wanted to do something totally different and guiding people around Shakespeare's Birthplace is just that!"
