Celebrations in Stratford-upon-Avon

There's no better place to celebrate Shakespeare's birthday than his hometown!

Every year, William Shakespeare's birthday is marked with a vibrant mix of pageantry and performance on the streets of his hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon.

On a weekend close to 23 April each year, Stratford comes alive to honour its most famous son with a colourful day of music, performance and family fun. Celebrations include a parade through the town, flags and representatives from all over the world and even an appearance from the man himself.

You can expect to see the best our talented local community has to offer, from singing groups to Morris dancers. Many groups are looking for new members - so you might leave with a new hobby!

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is a lead partner in the town’s festivities. The party continues at each of Shakespeare's family homes with a range of special events for families to enjoy. We also host an annual Birthday Lecture in conversation with a special guest each year.

So look out for details of our next celebrations on our What's On page. There really is no better time to pay us a visit than Shakespeare's birthday weekend.
