Next Generation Shakespearians: Beyond Set Texts

A day long event designed to inspire creative engagements with Shakespeare’s words and works

Our students were highly engaged throughout the day and it was a pleasure to see them discussing literature beyond the confines of the curriculum. A thoroughly enjoyable day.

The day reminded me why I love English - it made me feel that I really can do it.

Next Generation Shakespearians is organised and delivered by our in-house team of specialists at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.

This outreach event is designed to bring A Level students from different local schools and colleges together to encourage collaborative work and critical thinking around provocations about Shakespeare and his works.

The aim is to broaden student interest in the arts and creativity beyond the study of their set text, and to encourage them to share opinions about how they feel Shakespeare is perceived among young people now.

The involvement of undergraduate student mentors from local universities at each event, also offers your students opportunities to collaborate, share experiences, and get insights into pathways to further study and potential future careers.

By encouraging personal responses and peer-to-peer learning, students leave the event energised and brimming with confidence in their ability to speak about Shakespeare outside of a classroom environment.

The day runs from approximately 10.00 am to 3.30 pm.

If you would like to discuss hosting a ‘Next Generation Shakespearians: Beyond Set Texts’ event at your school, please contact Dr Nick Walton at [email protected] for further information.

An inspiring and interesting experience. It was great to see students discussing extracts and sharing ideas.
