Hall's Croft: The Story of Cambridge House School

Hall’s Croft, the home of Shakespeare’s eldest daughter Susanna Hall, is currently undergoing a multimillion-pound conservation project entitled ‘A House for All Time’ and is normally closed to the public. Our Heritage Open Day events provide a unique opportunity to learn more about this landmark project and discover the history of the building beyond the Shakespeare story.

Come and visit the Hall’s Croft learning space for a volunteer-led talk focused on Hall’s Croft’s later history as Cambridge House School, from 1865-1883. This provides an opportunity to explore stories connected to landowners, pupils, and women educators associated with the building. From success to scandal, the school's history takes unexpected twists and turns.

This event uses research from findmypast and our own collections and has been shortlisted for an Everyday History Heroes award in recognition of our commitment to uncovering local history. Please do cast a free vote for us via this link if you would like to support our project.
