Famous Beyond Words Exhibition

Meet the boy from Stratford-upon-Avon who became a household name all over the world

For four centuries Shakespeare’s work has fascinated people of all ages and backgrounds. The introductory exhibition at Shakespeare’s Birthplace explores the extraordinary story of William Shakespeare, the boy from Stratford-upon-Avon who became a household name all over the world. Discover what sparked his imagination and how he continues to shape our lives today.

Famous Beyond Words features an introductory film, an array of Shakespearian memorabilia, contemporary artwork, an early printed Shakespeare Folio and a timeline of his life.

The Shakespeare & Me section celebrates creativity inspired by Shakespeare and the variety of personal ways people can and do respond to his work. With the help of contributors from around the world, Shakespeare and Me tells individual stories of inspiration from throughout history up to the modern day.

Our exciting exhibition sets the scene for your visit to the place where the story began.

Famous Beyond Words has been funded by the DCMS/Wolfson Museum and Galleries Improvement Fund
