For four centuries Shakespeare’s work has fascinated people of all ages and backgrounds.  The new introductory exhibition at Shakespeare’s Birthplace explores the extraordinary story of William Shakespeare, the boy from Stratford-upon-Avon who became a household name all over the world. 

Discover what sparked his imagination and how he continues to shape our lives today.

New for March 2019 

Be Inspired: Shakespeare & Me, a section celebrating creativity inspired by Shakespeare. It draws attention to the variety of personal ways in which people respond to Shakespeare and includes individual stories about how artists, actors and writers, throughout history and into modern times, have been inspired. Be Inspired: Shakespeare & Me has been created with the help of contributors from around the world who have kindly shared their unique stories with us.

Famous Beyond Words features an introductory film, array of Shakespeare memorabilia, contemporary artwork, a copy of Shakespeare's First Folio and a timeline of Shakespeare's life, this inspiring exhibition sets the scene for your visit to the place where the story began.

Famous Beyond Words has been funded by the DCMS/Wolfson Museum and Galleries Improvement Fund.
