On Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 March 2024, families are invited to Stratford-upon-Avon for a weekend of free performances, live arts, and hands-on crafting, as the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (SBT) celebrates the 10th anniversary of Shakespeare Week.

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (SBT) is set to welcome visitors to Henley Street on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 March for a weekend full of free fun, games and merriment, all inspired by the incredible women in William Shakespeare’s life and marking 10 years of Shakespeare Week - the national celebration of Shakespeare aimed at primary school children.

"We are excited to welcome families to Henley Street to join us in celebrating the 10th anniversary of Shakespeare Week.

‘’From dance performances and cheeky jesters to journaling workshops and live arts and crafts, led by our Heritage team and all inspired by the Women Who Made Shakespeare, the weekend will truly be one to remember’’.

Commented Sarah Fisher, Primary and Informal Learning Partnerships Manager at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, the organisers of Shakespeare Week.

This year, organisers are taking over Henley Street, outside of the iconic Shakespeare’s Birthplace, with a host of events and activities, making an unforgettable weekend for visitors.

Families can expect live performances of a Romeo & Juliet inspired parkour dance in front of Shakespeare’s Birthplace, as well as a drop-in creative journaling workshop with writer and illustrator Marcia Williams.

Children can also unleash their creativity with a fun workshop crafting portraits of Queen Elizabeth I with West Midlands-based artist Tat Vision. The talented team from Events From History will be performing some of Shakespeare’s most famous scenes, some with a female twist, and then inviting the audience to the stage in an interactive sketch.

‘’Our Shakespeare Week family weekend allows us to collaborate and shine a spotlight on local talent. So, a huge thank you to our exceptional partners who have helped to make this weekend a truly remarkable one. We cannot wait for visitors to see what is in store as we all come together for a weekend of fun as we celebrate this milestone year for Shakespeare Week.’’

Added Sarah Fisher.

Shakespeare Week’s free family festival takes place on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 March 2024, from 10am to 4pm, on Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon.
