Join us on Henley Street for a weekend to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Shakespeare Week

A weekend of celebrations

We invite you to a weekend of free performances and activities outside Shakespeare’s Birthplace to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Shakespeare Week – our national celebration of Shakespeare for children and families.

This year we are taking over Henley Street and have lots to keep you entertained. From dance performances and cheeky jesters to journaling workshops and live arts and crafts workshops. We hope you will join in the 10-year-anniversary celebrations with us!

Saturday 23rd March 2024 ONLY

Ascension Dance Company, performances at 11.30 am & 2.30 pm, Workshops taking place 12 - 1 pm and 2.30 - 3.30 pm.

Come along and watch live performances of a Romeo & Juliet inspired parkour dance right in front of Shakespeare’s Birthplace.

Bard Women, regular intervals from 10 am – 4 pm

Watch Lady Mac and Mistress Much comically re-enact beloved scenes and sonnets from William Shakespeare’s works in front of the ‘Bard’s Birthplace’.

Marcia Williams, 10 am – 12 noon, Marble Hall, at the Shakespeare Centre

Drop in to the Marble Hall, at the Shakespeare Centre and meet writer and illustrator Marcia Williams, for a drop-in creative journalling workshop.

Sunday 24th March 2024 ONLY

Events from History, every hour from 10 am – 3pm

Come and watch Events from History perform scenes from Romeo and Juliet and then take to the stage yourself in an interactive Shakespeare sketch.

BOTH Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th March

Tudor Fool School, regular intervals from 10 am – 4 pm

Let our jester wow you with his juggling, magic, and comic timing, but watch out, as you never know where they might be causing trouble.

Tat Vision, all day, Henley Street

Line provided by Mr Tat Vision himself - Join Tat Vision for a fun workshop crafting portraits of Queen Elizabeth I. Unleash your creativity with felt tip pens and a variety of craft materials. Drop in and let your creativity reign free!

Women who Make, all day, drop in from 10am – 4 pm

Come and get hands on with a series of make and take activities celebrating our multi year theme; The Women Who Made Shakespeare’, exploring the hidden stories behind the women in Shakespeare’s life.

Meet our Tudor wise woman and learn all about traditional Tudor cures for your ailments! Create your own Tudor money pot using clay or have a go at making a lavender bag and tussie mussies to ward off the plague!

Try your hand at weaving and learn about the fabrics that were made in Tudor times. Learn about the sumptuary laws and what women were and were not allowed to wear at the time.

All activities are suitable for all ages and are free to take part in.
