The buildings themselves will get involved with Shakespeare’s Birthplace illuminated in orange, green and purple and a seasonal menu at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage featuring pumpkin spiced drinks!
Danielle Patten, Assistant Director of Museum Engagement at The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust said: "Shakespeare knew a thing or two about giving audiences a fright, from witches and ghosts to mysterious prophecies and things that go bump in the night. This Halloween, we're having some fun with that spookier side of his imagination and inviting everyone to join in.
“We want Shakespeare's family homes to be places where people can be curious, playful and discover something unexpected. Whether you're a lifelong Shakespeare fan or simply looking for a fun day out with the family, there's plenty of magic and mischief to enjoy this half-term.”
At Shakespeare’s Birthplace Events From History will bring the world of Macbeth to life with Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and one of the witches performing in the Actors Circle every 30mins on each day of the holidays. Look out for them as they roam the gardens and be prepared for them to share a prophecy or two …. if you are brave enough to listen.
Pick up the free Birthplace Treasure Trail and become a history detective following the clues through Shakespeare’s Birthplace, the Shakespeare Centre and the Birthplace Shop to discover fascinating objects from The Trust’s collections.
And for those visitors to Stratford who dare to be outdoors after dark in spooky season, head to Shakespeare’s Birthplace which will be lit up in Halloween colours perfect for in costume photo opportunities on Henley Street.
At Anne Hathaway’s Cottage you can get closer to nature with a Nature Explore Backpack as visitors explore the cottage garden where Anne Hathaway grew up. Warm up at The Garden Café with pumpkin spice drinks and Halloween-themed treats. Over at Shakespeare’s New Place – the place where Shakespeare wrote most of his best-known plays – visitors can find their own inspiration with Creative Explorer Backpacks.
Throughout spooky season Ghouls, Witches and Wizards will be welcome, all children who visit in a Halloween costume will receive a free gift to take home. Look out for The Trust’s own staff who are planning costumes of their own.
