A free online talk with people engaged in Shakespeare-related research - In conversation with Hailey Bachrach.
Join Hailey Bachrach as she shares with us her insights into the female characters of Shakespeare’s history plays.
When thinking of the history plays, women are rarely the characters who come to mind. They don't say much, don't get listened to, and, in modern productions, often don't get included at all. Dr. Hailey Bachrach discusses how the female characters of Shakespeare's histories are essential precisely because of their silence, marginality, and exclusion from the "main" storyline.
Why would Shakespeare include characters who seem so inessential?
How can the practicalities of early modern performance help us understand these overlooked figures?
Why are directors actually making a big mistake?
Led by Dr Hailey Bachrach, formerly a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the University of Roehampton.
