Shakespeare in Salzburg: A Retreat at Schloss Leopoldskron

A three-day, fully residential retreat

This three-day, fully residential retreat at the astonishing Schloss Leopoldskron

This three-day, fully residential retreat, offers you the opportunity to focus on A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the astonishing Schloss Leopoldskron (which millions of people know as the Von Trapp house in the famous film version of The Sound of Music).

In 1918, the Schloss was bought by Max Reinhardt, the great theatre and film director who founded the Salzburg Festival. He restored and embellished the palace as his home and as a gathering place for some of the leading musicians, actors and writers of the age. In 1938, he fled Nazi persecution and died in the U.S.A. in 1943. Salzburg Global began its educational work at the Schloss in 1947.

The retreat focuses on A Midsummer Night’s Dream because Reinhardt directed it on film for Hollywood in 1935.

Speakers include theatre director, Sir Gregory Doran, Shakespeare scholars Professor Carol Rutter (University of Warwick) and Dr Paul Edmondson (The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust), and (subject to availability) special-guest actors, including Dame Harriet Walter and Guy Paul.
