An evening of history, literature and conversation at The Shakespeare Bookshop on Henley Street.
Join us at The Shakespeare Bookshop as we welcome award-winning historian Dr Lauren Working to discuss her new book, A Golden World, published by Faber. The evening takes place in the historic surroundings of Hornby Cottage, our 16th-century home on Henley Street.
A Golden World reveals how the Americas became a visible, material presence in English culture through a range of unexpected objects, from tobacco leaves strewn across playhouse floors to a boy wearing a pearl earring. Lauren offers a fresh history of England’s so-called “golden age” in the 16th century.
