Library & Reading Room

Help us continue to provide open access to our library in Stratford and online

We hold the world’s largest specialist Shakespeare library that is free and open to anyone. Every year thousands of visitors, scholars and students use our reading room to research a variety of topics, further enhancing the world’s understanding of Shakespeare and his works.

Support our cataloguing and help keep the library open to give ever greater access to our archives:

£4.50 could digitally catalogue one of our modern books
£40 keeps the reading room open for one hour
£900 could catalogue our entire collection of 205 editions of Hamlet

Help us continue to acquire the latest publications, focusing on subjects including:

  • Criticism of Shakespeare’s work
  • Collected works by Shakespeare including texts and translations
  • Shakespeare in performance (theatre, film, opera and ballet)
  • Illustrations of Shakespeare’s works
  • Shakespeare’s life
  • Social and economic history of Shakespeare’s times
  • Community history of Stratford-upon-Avon and South Warwickshire
