An Unusual Tudor Watering Can

Take a look at a 16th century watering jug in the next post in the "Say It with Flowers" series.

The Anne Hathaway Cottage Garden and Allotment Festival is fast approaching. On 8th and 9th September, the beautiful cottage garden will be taken over by horticultural experts, local produce, craft stalls, and children in vegetable-themed fancy dress.

In preparation for the event, the guides have been looking at flower and garden themed objects on display. Here, Jon is looking at a 16th century stoneware watering jug from our collections. However, this is not actually a watering jug for watering your garden, as you might expect...

This watering jug be found on permanent display downstairs at Anne Hathaway's Cottage. If visiting this year, you will also be able to see our Say it with Flowers exhibition, looking at flowers and their symbolism from Shakespeare through to the Victorian period.
