The Greenwood Tree

Our specially commissioned sculpture in the Great Garden at Shakespeare's New Place

The tree is steel-coloured, its trunk flattened, and it spreads its branches in both directions along brick wall, but with the branches to the right significantly longer.
The first batch of leaves being fitted to the tree!

The Greenwood Tree is a specially commissioned sculpture that stands in a prime position in the Great Garden at New Place, bringing to mind the Forest of Arden in As You Like It

300 individually engraved leaves will fill the tree, ready for the opening of New Place in a few month’s time. Each leaf has a personalised dedication, and we have already received a wonderful selection of tributes and quotes.

Four leaves are shown attached to the ends of twigs; they are coloured green, brown, and grey, and all have white writing in varying fonts.

The first batch of around 35 engraved leaves were, very kindly, fitted to the Tree on Wednesday 13th April, by Adam from JW and AJ Barrett, the Redditch-based company who sculpted the tree for us. Video footage and photographs were taken during the fitting and the sun shone brightly for the occasion! The next batch of dedications will be sent to the engravers today ready for fitting very shortly.
