Speech Exploder
An on your feet workshop that gives students the tools to unpack, understand and speak a Shakespeare speech out loud
‘It was wonderfully pitched and had the perfect balance of clarity, humour and energy to capture the attention of even our most difficult students.’
— Oswestry School
This workshop gives students the tools to unpack and understand Shakespeare's words, and the confidence to speak them out loud.
We will take one monologue from a play of your choice and explode it, breaking it into pieces to explore context, language, meaning and character.
Using theatre and oracy techniques, we will then put it back together again, creating a group performance that gets every student engaging with the speech and the thoughts and feelings behind it.
Key elements of the workshop include:
- Understanding of the text through close reading
- Analysis of language and imagery
- Exploration of context and characters
- Building confidence and oracy skills by creating a group performance
- Encouraging personal response, creative thinking, subjective interpretation and enjoyment of the text for all.
Venue: Onsite in Stratford-upon-Avon
Duration: 60 minutes
Numbers: 30 students maximum per session
Price: £180 per session
