Shakespeare Aloud!

Add some drama to your visit with our very own troupe of professional actors.

Shakespeare Aloud! brings the Birthplace and gardens to life with colourful performances every day of the year. Request an excerpt from your favourite Shakespeare play and watch his most intriguing characters come alive in front of your eyes.

Actors perform for children in the garden

Shakespeare Aloud! makes Shakespeare's plays accessible to everyone, so get ready to join in the fun as our actors invite members of the audience - young and old - to play alongside them.

The troupe also plays an integral role during events across Shakespeare's Family Homes, and has even been known to venture out to schools and events across the country to bring Shakespeare's work to an even wider audience.

The presence of Shakespeare Aloud! in our gardens at the Birthplace has become an integral part of educational visits to the Shakespeare Centre. When asked for their feedback, high school and university students from across the world make a point of mentioning the way in which the actors brought their visit to life.

The Birthplace Lightshow

Shakespeare Aloud! played an integral role in the first Birthplace Lightshow, which dazzled and amazed visitors to Henley Street four times a night in 2013.

The Lightshow is back again this festive season, with brand new shows from 27 Nov - 14 Dec! Find out more about the Birthplace Lightshow 2014.

‘Like being aboard a motorbike at full throttle round all the bends, or watching a timely sky rocket showering sudden sparks on action..’ - Review of Macbeth in the Stratford Herald

"Excellent characterisation and impromptu performances by the actors. Performances were beautifully observed with suburb comic timing.  The Bard would, doubtless, have been extremely impressed."

"Shakespeare Aloud! gave an outstanding medley of extracts from Shakespeare's works at a dinner party given in our home to celebrate Michael's 70th birthday. We cannot speak highly enough of their performance, which combined wit and pathos in equal measure, interacting with our guests." - Lord and Lady Spicer

‘I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for last night’s Shakespeare in the Sky event. The evening was a tremendous success and I have received countless texts and emails from guests this morning to thank us for the night." - Fred Siriex, Hilton Hotel Mayfair

"I just wanted to write and say what a fantastic day we had yesterday with Rich and Jen here for the school Takeover.  They were brilliant.  Thank you so much. It was a fantastic day and that was down to you guys!!" - Richard Kirk, Moulsford Prep School
