Celebrate William Shakespeare's birthday and 400th anniversary in Stratford-upon-Avon!

Stratford’s tradition of the Birthday Celebration dates back more than 100 years and brings together residents and visitors in a vibrant mix of pageantry and performance. 

Saturday 23 April 2016

The town is planning an extra special celebration for William Shakespeare's 400th anniversary. One of the highights will be a traditional New Orleans jazz procession staged by the School of Liberal Arts of Tulane University. Live street entertainment across the town and a fabulous Shakespeare show broadcast live from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in the evening, followed by spectacular fireworks.

Shakespeare's Family Homes

Join us at Shakespeare's family homes for a free slice of birthday cake (while stocks last) and have a #SelfieWithShakespeare with our fun selfie props!

Shakespeare's Birthplace

From 12pm enjoy live street entertainment outside William Shakespeare's Birthplace and add some colour to your favourite Shakespearian character on our giant art cube. The first 400 visitors to Shakespeare's Birthplace will also receive a special souvenir gift!

Hall’s Croft

Knights and Nymphs Toddlers Party (12 - 4pm)

Come and join the fun at our annual Knights & Nymphs toddler party! Families with children under 5 can enjoy free entry to Hall's Croft gardens to celebrate Shakespeare's birthday with us. Bring a picnic or treat yourself to our bbq and enjoy a fun day out with music, dancing, storytelling, face painting and lots of fairy fun!
