For four centuries Shakespeare’s work has fascinated people of all ages and backgrounds.  The new introductory exhibition at Shakespeare’s Birthplace explores the extraordinary story of William Shakespeare, the boy from Stratford-upon-Avon who became a household name all over the world.

Discover what sparked his imagination and how he continues to shape our lives today.

New for 2016, the 400th anniversary year, is a display which explores Shakespeare's closest and longest relationships in Stratford: those with his immediate family.

Ceremonial mace, 1475. From the mid 1500s this mace was used by the Bailiff of Stratford-upon-Avon, a post held by William Shakespeare's father John in 1568.

Famous Beyond Words features an array of Shakespeare memorabilia, contemporary artwork, a copy of Shakespeare's First Folio and a timeline of Shakespeare's life, this inspiring exhibition sets the scene for your visit to the place where the story began.
