Woolly Week

May Half Term

We'll be celebrating all things woolly for the whole half term week

There will be daily traditional sheep shearing demonstrations (check our daily activities board when you arrive for times). The farm team will be shearing our rare breed sheep using traditional hand shears, just like the Tudors would have done.

The Stratford-upon-Avon Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers will be in Mary Arden's House every day, demonstrating how fleece is prepared and spun into wool. There will be lots of opportunities to get hands on and have a go at different wool crafts like weaving on a loom to create wool cloth, felting fleece and braiding. Braids were a staple of Tudor clothing, used to lace clothes together and sometimes to add decoration. They were also used as drawstrings on purses, to tie items onto belts, and even as shoelaces.

You can now buy wool in our gift shop from our sheep at Mary Arden's Farm!

All activities are included in the entrance fee
