Candlelit Christmas

at Shakespeare's Birthplace

Come in from the darkness of winter and enjoy an intimate tour of Shakespeare's childhood home, under the magic of candlelight.

29, 30 November, 6, 7, 13, 14 December | from 5pm | Tickets £9.75 - £15

Our Candlelit tours of Shakespeare’s Birthplace are back by popular demand this Christmas.

Come in from the darkness of winter and enjoy an intimate and extended tour of William Shakespeare’s childhood home, decked out as it would have been in the late Tudor period.

Leave the hurley burley of the modern world behind and start your journey back in time with a warming drink of mulled wine and mince pie as you enjoy the sounds of live, traditional Tudor music in our Famous Beyond Words exhibition.

Next, take hold of an LED candle and start your guided tour through Shakespeare’s Childhood home by one of our costume guides. Once you have stepped into the Shakespeare family home you will learn about festive traditions of the Tudor period, known as Christmastide and find out how remarkably different they are from how we celebrate it today.

Discover how Christmas traditions have changed since Shakespeare’s childhood and what stays with us today, including traditional games, warming scents, and the symbolic meanings behind many decorations that could have been used to dress their homes.
