Houses Conservation

Help us to preserve the most important literary houses in the world

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust cares for five properties in and around Stratford-upon-Avon, all connected to Shakespeare and his immediate family. When you visit the houses or make a donation, you will be helping us preserve the most important literary houses in the world so that we can continue to welcome visitors for hundreds of years to come.

Caring for 400 year old timber framed houses like Shakespeare's Birthplace poses a challenge that we take on without hesitation. With your help we can protect the houses from threats such as damp, infestations of death watch beetle and distortion of the timber frames.

Thanks to your support we are able to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors through our doors every year, from primary school groups learning about what life was like for a Tudor child, to Shakespeare pilgrims fulfilling a lifelong ambition to stand in the room where Shakespeare was born.
