Shakespeare died on 23 April 1616 in his family home, New Place. He was buried two days later in Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon.
Visitors to Stratford can still visit the church and Shakespeare's grave, where a curse is inscribed on the stone: 'Good friend for Jesus sake forbeare, To digg the dust encloased heare, Blest by the man that spares these stones, And curst be he that moves my bones.'
In 2016, celebrations have taken place across the world to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. Find out more about Shakespeare 2016 at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
