Say it with Flowers
The language of love in Shakespeare's plays
11 February - 31 December 2012
Anne Hathaway's Cottage
Our new exhibition, Say it with Flowers, explores the symbolism of flowers during the Elizabethan period and how Shakespeare used them in his works. It also looks at the Victorian language of flowers as a tool for communicating messages of love. The exhibition features some wonderful items from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust's Collections, starting with some beautiful pieces of Elizabethan embroidery.
The fragrant theme continues in the garden with a newly planted Lavender Maze and a riot of blooms in flower, forever changing with the seasons.
