  • Stratford is UK's sixth best destination

Stratford-upon-Avon has been voted the sixth best destination in the UK by the world's largest travel website, TripAdvisor. Emma O'Boyle, TripAdvisor spokeswoman, said that visitors had been attracted by Shakespeare's birthplace, but also by other attractions such as the largest butterfly farm in Europe. She said: "For Stratford to come in at number six and beat a lot of other famous and larger, obvious tourist destinations is a fantastic achievement. It's close to an airport (Birmingham); it's got good road links and is relatively easy to reach by rail. These awards honour the world's best destinations as decided by those judges that really matter - travellers themselves. Stratford, famous for being the birthplace of Shakespeare, offers a great deal of culture, heritage and beauty and it's wonderful to see it recognised."

  • Visit on 25th February

Following a visit to four of the properties (Mary Arden's farm was still closed) on Friday 25th February by our family, two adults and two girls, plus a friend, I would just like to let you know how much we enjoyed the experience. We found all the staff and volunteers at site extremely helpful and willing to answer any of our queries but what for us really made it was their enthusiasm and the way they engaged us with the tales that they shared. It really did make learning fun and brought the buildings to life. You could see the people doing as they said in the stories they told us. It was a great day for us all and one that we cannot wait to do again once Mary Arden's house is opened again. I hope that you can pass to these people our thanks and gratitude for making our day so special. We understand that it cannot be easy keeping the enthusiasm for so many visitors but they managed it somehow. thank you again and keep up the good work
