Summer demonstrations Families icon

Please find below a list of the demonstrations you can expect to see at Mary Arden's Farm during the summer. Each activity lasts between 20 and 30 minutes, and begin at approximately 11.00am and 2.30pm daily.
Monday
- On summer Mondays the men prepare the cart for haymaking
- For the women it is Wash Day as usualTwo guides with the oxen and cart with hay in
Tuesday
- For the men this means mowing a meadow, and in July the Barley Mow
- The women distill herbal medicines
Wednesday
- The men broadcast rye, and in July it is the Hop Harvest
- On summer Wednesdays the women make sallets
Thursday
- The men weed the crops and plant flax
- The women are tasked with cheese-making
- Join in with stone picking and bird-scaring!!
Friday
- The men take part in hovel-making for pigs and peas
- The women set about making perfume waters and oils, and soap
Saturday
- On summer Saturdays the men sharpen the scythes and make a haystack
- The women make butter
Sunday
- As in the spring, the men do archery practice on summer Sundays
