Activities and Events during the Shakespeare Birthday Celebrations on Friday 25th of April 2008

the Beating Retreat by the Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers on Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon

Wednesday 23rd - Saturday 26th April, 'Post-a-Poem for Shakespeare': presented by The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and Stratford Public Library. Poems by school students are published by being displayed on the railings of Shakespeare's Birthplace - 'Hang there, my verse, in witness of my love.'

2.00pm - Stratford Town Walk: Duration 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Meet by Swan Fountain, Waterside. Adults £5, over 65's and students £4, children £2. Also every Monday and Tuesday at 11.00am

3.00pm - Unveiling of statue: of 'The Winter's Tale', sculpted by Greg Wyatt, in the Great Garden of New Place

4.00pm - Birthday Lecture: Janet Suzman in conversation with Dr Paul Edmondson. At the Shakespeare Institute, Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon. Tickets £5, available from the Institute by calling 0121 4149500 or the Birthplace Bookshop on 01789 201820

5.30pm - Beating Retreat: by the Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers, in Henley Street

6.30pm - Civic Reception: and cocktail party (by invitation) at the Town Hall, hosted by the Mayor of Stratford-upon-Avon, Councillor Mrs Donna Barker

7.30pm - Candlelit tour of the Birthplace: for International Visitors following the above reception (by invitation only)

7.30pm - Stratford Town Ghost Walk: Duration 1 1/2 hours. Must be booked in advance: 01789 292478 or 07855 760377. Also on Mondays.
