Residential courses

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust has been running bespoke courses for visiting students of all levels and from all parts of the globe for over 40 years. What better place to study William Shakespeare than in his home town? Right next door to Shakespeare's Birthplace, we have one of the most extensive Shakespeare libraries and performance archives in the world. Nearby are all the houses associated with Shakespeare's life and times and of course the theatres of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Our courses are for groups of 10 participants upwards. Though aimed at University students of all levels courses are also enjoyed by other adult groups such as teachers and Shakespeare societies across the world. Courses can also be tailored to suit school groups (aged 15 upwards) and we have many regular visits from international schools.

Here is a video made by students at Hanover College about their visit to Stratford which will give you an idea of some of the things you can do during your stay here.

And here is another video from Furman University students showing the Renaissance dance class they undertook as part of their residential course.

In order to help you shape your ideal course we have created a pick and mix list of sessions and actvities which can be combined to create your bespoke course. Courses may run at any time of year and may be anything from one day to two weeks in duration.

Please browse through the options below to find out more about the range of sessions we offer. Have a look at these three sample programmes to see the sorts of courses which can be made up of the individual elements below.

Sample 1 - a long and varied university course

Sample 2 - a shorter more simple university course

Sample 3 - a short course for a school group

Please note that the prices quoted are 2012 prices and are based on a group of 15. You will find contact details on the descriptions below.
