Folklore played an important role in history and there are many references by Shakespeare of the folklore and history of flora and fauna.

Borage (Borago officinalis)
Also known as 'Herb of Gladness', borage was traditionally thought to dispel melancholy and give courage, 'I, Borage, bring always courage'. The flowers were added to the final stirrup cup to those leaving to fight in the Crusades. Flowers and young leaves are added to salads and drinks. Plant near strawberries as they stimulate each other's growth.
