Romeo and Juliet, true love?

Are Romeo and Juliet really the most romantic of all lovers? Or is their love more folly, infatuation and teenage angst?

Understanding Shakespeare

Hello my name is Kathryn Westwood and I have been working on ways to engage children with Shakespeare whilst improving their understanding of the text. The conference papers and accompanying PowerPoint presentations below are 'How can television adaptation work to promote understanding of Shakespeare amongst young audiences?', and 'The necessity of modern media in the teaching of Shakespeare and World Literature in schools' respectively. They are based on the findings of research in practice with secondary schools in Manchester and the West Midlands, and are in line for publication soon. They are the contributing research towards my MA dissertation at Manchester University: 'The necessity of modern media in the teaching of Shakespeare and World Literature in schools' (working title). The research is followed by the RSC and the BBC, and will form the basis of an internship project with the RSC in the lead up to the World Shakespeare Festival this year.

    5. If you use television/ film adaptations in class as a study aid, why do you think they are effective?
