Edward Alleyn (1566-1626) was the most famous actor of his time. He acted with the Admiral's Men, and among his many parts were the title roles in Marlowe's plays Dr Faustus and Tamburlaine at the Rose Theatre. Richard Burbage (1573-1619) was the leading actor in Shakespeare's company for whom the parts of King Lear, Hamlet and Othello were almost certainly written. He was mentioned by Shakespeare in his will and numerous contemporary references testify to his popularity. The two actors for whom Shakespeare wrote most of his comic roles were Will Kempe, who played Dogberry in Much Ado About Nothing and Robert Armin (1568-1615), who played the Fool in King Lear and Feste in Twelfth Night.
