Venus and Adonis, entered in the Stationers' Register in 1593 and published in the same year. This was a long poem on a classical theme dedicated to the young Earl of Southampton who became Shakespeare's patron. During Shakespeare's lifetime this poem was reprinted more times than any of his plays. The first play to be published was Titus Andronicus in 1594. |
