There is no proof that Shakespeare used recreational drugs, however there is evidence that substances such as cocaine and myristic acid (a hallucinogenic derived from plants, including nutmeg) were smoked in the 17th Century. In fact, traces of such substances have been detected on fragments of clay pipes dating back to Shakespeare's times, which were excavated from his home in Stratford-upon-Avon. |
