The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Catalogue of Archives includes low-resolution digital images of some of the items in the Local Collections. These are being added to the catalogue as time permits. Most of these images are from our collection of photographs and postcards.

As yet, only a small proportion of the photograph collection is available online. You are welcome to come in to the Shakespeare Centre Library and Archive to view the other photographs and postcards in our collection. Alternatively, if you have any enquiries about our image collection, or if you would like to order high-resolution scans, photographic prints or photocopies, please contact us and we will be happy to help.

Viewing images on the online catalogue

Open the Catalogue of Archives (this link will open in a new window).  Click on All Other at the left hand side of the catalogue page. You can then search for a topic, as follows:

1. type, for example, Bancroft photograph or Bancroft postcard in the Keyword box
2. click in the little circle next to And at the bottom of the page
3. click on Search
4. when the list of items appears, you can click on the word view next to each item in order to display the photographs.

Copyright

Copyright in these images is either held by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust or by a third party: unless otherwise stated, you should assume that copyright is held by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Use of these images is restricted to educational, or personal, non-commercial purposes.

The copyright in a small number of these images still rests with the photographers, rather than with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. In these cases, the Trust has attempted to locate, contact and acknowledge copyright holders. If you believe that you are a copyright holder of any of the material on the catalogue and we have not yet contacted you about its use, please contact us.

Commercial use of images

Any parties wishing to reproduce images from the Local Collections of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust for direct or indirect commercial use should contact us in the first instance. Anyone wishing to use the images in this way will need to order high-resolution scans or photographic prints from us, and will also need to apply to us for permission to use the images.
