Richard Griffiths has had an emphatically distinguished stage, film and television acting career, over the last three decades, and has established himself as a tremendous character actor. He performed for many years with the Royal Shakespeare Company, appearing in numerous major stage productions. His roles included Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream, King of Navarre in Love's Labour's Lost, Pompey in Measure for Measure, Nikolai Mikhailovich in Red Star, as well as Henry VIII and Volpone in the title roles. Richard Griffiths is also fondly remembered for his role as Uncle Monty in the cult film Withnail and I (1987), and has appeared in other hugely successful films and television programmes, such as the gothic horror Sleepy Hollow (1999) and the comedy series Pie in the Sky (BBC 1994-99). Most recently, he has starred in the film adaptations of the globally successful Harry Potter series.
