Group Visits PDF Print E-mail

The Shakespeare Centre Library welcomes visits by schools, college and general interest groups by appointment and will arrange displays of library materials and provide talks about the Library's collections.

School Group Visits

Groups must be accompanied by a teacher. For groups of over 11 students we request that the school provides two teachers to oversee the session. We can provide a range of materials on a selected play or plays for use by group members.

Visits cost from £35 (inc. VAT) for a half-day, and £60.00 for a whole day. This includes:

  • use of a conference room
  • introduction to the materials by a member of Library staff
  • hands-on study with RSC archive materials (production photographs, reviews, programmes and videos)
  • a wide selection of books on the performance history for consultation
  • items from our picture collection (illustrations and prints from the eighteenth century onwards)

Photocopies for research and private study of any relevant material may be ordered on the day of your visit, and can be invoiced for along with the group fee.

Benefits for Local Schools: There is no charge, except for the cost of photocopies, for schools located within a 10-mile radius of Stratford-upon-Avon.

Material for Schools by Post

Teachers requesting research materials by post will be sent a book list of published work and a range of photocopies for a standard charge of £25 (inc. VAT):
Photocopies include:

  • contemporary reviews going back to the earliest recorded production and up to the 20th century
  • one major 20th century production by the Royal Shakespeare Company (reviews, photographs, programme notes)
