PLEASE READ THESE RULES CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THE LIBRARY & ARCHIVE On their first visit, readers will be asked to produce proof of identity with address and signature, and will then be issued with a Reader's Ticket. Subsequently readers must show their Reader's Ticket and sign the Visitors Book on each visit. All readers must undertake to observe the guidelines below. Outdoor coats, large bags and briefcases are not allowed in the Library & Archive and should be left in the cloakroom in the Entrance Hall, where lockers are provided. Requisition forms must be completed for every item ordered from the strongrooms. Normally not more than four items will be supplied to a single reader at any one time. Reader's tickets must be surrendered when library materials are supplied. All library materials should be returned in person to the Librarian on duty. No materials may be removed from the Reading Room. Only pencils may be used in the Reading Room. Marks must not be made in books. Archival gloves must be worn when handling photographic material. When necessary, readers must use book/document rests and weights as provided in the reading room. Use of other objects to support Library & Archive materials is not permitted. Readers must not lean on books or documents or rest papers or notebooks on them. Talking in the Reading Room must be kept to a minimum for the convenience of other readers. Mobile telephones and personal stereos should be switched off. Food and drink are not permitted in the Reading Room or study rooms. Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the building. If you wish to use a personal computer please consult the Librarian on duty.
